The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3698 and American Legion, Post 0186 will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony on June 11 at 10 a.m.  at the Memorial site across the street from the football field on Buffington Street.

The ceremony is usually held on June 14, which is Flag Day, but it was moved to the closest weekend.

The purpose of holding a flag retirement ceremony is a way to “respectfully” dispose of unserviceable U.S. flags that have become tattered or weathered beyond use.

Anyone can bring a flag to the ceremony, give to one of the members, or drop it off at the John F. Henderson Public Library at Westville. Everyone is invited.    Quarter Master Dr. James Oliver
